Growing up we would work the summers up in Greer. There was a couple that vacationed up there and somehow we got hired on by them each summer to rake their needles. If the needles weren't raked around your house you could forget about it being saved by firefighters if there was a wildfire. Those dry needles are like gasoline for a fire.
We would work up there all day a few weekends a summer. It was the best and I was so excited when I was finally old enough to go. Dad was sure to explain to me that I couldn't slack off. They were paying me for a job and I needed to work hard for that. Tyson was who I usually worked with. Buddy might of been there once. It was guaranteed to come home with multiple blisters but that was fine. They paid well. thinking back now it was only like $10 an hour but that was AWESOME for a 14 yr old. While working up there the wind would always be blowing. We would see an occasional fox or squirrel. Billy and her husband, I can't remember his name, would be working outside with us planting flowers and such.
Billy Lemuer was the BEST sandwich maker I have ever met. Half way through the day she would call us over and let us eat lunch out on her patio. I don't know how she did it but those sandwiches were money. Then she would have some fruit, or kettle cooked chips and cookies for us.
It would look a lot like this...
I think her house was the first time I had a BLT.
I was having a hankering for this sandwich and Billy was no where around. I made it myself. Rye bread grilled in bacon grease, mustard, mayonaise, lettuce, tomato, turkey, cheese, and bacon. It was pretty darn good. Nothing like hers though. Now it may just be that I was ferociously hungry around the time her sandwich came but I like to think it was her mad skills.
I miss summers in a small town.

Here is Lindsey cliff diving.

Its so beautiful. There is plenty of time to enjoy nature and sit and think and read and enjoy each other.
